Release

Nexview 0.31.0

FeatureNotifications

Nexview now reaches you while it is closed: every account can subscribe its own devices for web push, and the same switches as for e-mail decide what arrives there.

New

Web push notifications for your own devices. Under Profile → Notifications → Web Push, one click on "Allow notifications" subscribes the browser you are in: phone, tablet or computer. From then on the title is ready, the request is decided, a child wishes for something, and it shows on the lock screen even while Nexview is not open. Every device subscribes once and appears in a list with its last delivery; a test message tells you right away whether anything arrives. Messages are encrypted end to end and signed with a key Nexview generates once and never changes; the browser's push service only sees that something arrives.

The same switches as for e-mail. What you get notified about belongs to your account, so it is the same on every device. The first device turns all switches on so the subscription does not run into a void; after that you turn off what you do not want. The monthly clean-up report stays an e-mail.

Installable as a web app. Nexview ships a manifest and icons and can sit on a Home Screen or in a taskbar like an app. On iPhone and iPad that is the prerequisite for web push: Apple delivers only to pages on the Home Screen, and the page says on every device what is still missing, be it the Home Screen, the permission or https.

Operators see where Nexview sends. Subscribed devices appear in Settings → Channels next to the Home Assistant callbacks: whose they are, which browser, which push service. The subscription address itself is never shown; it is a key to the device.

Also

  • Web push needs https. On a plain http address in the home network the page explains that instead of showing a dead button.
  • A device you remove is not silently subscribed again on the next visit, even though the browser would still allow it.
  • A subscription the push service no longer knows is dropped by Nexview on its own; a rejected signature is reported, not dropped.
